Kathmandu — PABSON, National PABSON, HISSAN, and OPEN staged a peaceful protest against the federal education policy that seeks to close down private schools under the Federal Education Act, saying they remain committed to quality education in private institutions. The protest was held on Monday at Maitighar Mandala.

Gathering at Maitighar, participants tied black armbands and chanted slogans opposing certain provisions of the School Education Bill.

They demanded that the provisions in the bill requiring full scholarships and mandating the supply of materials not produced by schools be scrapped. They also opposed the clause that seeks to turn schools into “non-profit institutions.”

Protesters carried placards with slogans such as “The state bears the teachers’ burden, private schools bear the pressure,” “Private schools’ commitment to quality education,” “Overall development of education,” and “Foundation of nation-building.”
