kathmandu: State-owned telecommunications service provider Nepal Telecom has recorded a net profit of Rs 6 billion for the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), reflecting stable financial performance amid a competitive market.
The company’s 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held on Wednesday, unanimously approved a proposal to distribute a cash dividend of Rs 30 per share to its shareholders from the accumulated profit.
Alongside the financial decisions, the AGM also highlighted Nepal Telecom’s strategic move toward rolling out 5G services in major cities. The company confirmed that preparatory work has been completed and that phased 5G deployment will initially focus on key urban centers, where demand for high-speed data services is strongest. The rollout is expected to begin with selected metropolitan and sub-metropolitan cities before expanding nationwide.
According to company officials, growth in data usage, disciplined cost management, and continued service expansion supported profitability during the fiscal year. Investment in network modernization and digital services has also helped strengthen the company’s revenue base.
During the AGM, management outlined future priorities, including improving service quality, accelerating digital transformation, and upgrading core network infrastructure to support next-generation technologies such as 5G. The company stated that the 5G rollout will enhance capacity, reduce latency, and enable advanced digital services for consumers and enterprises.
The profit announcement, dividend approval, and confirmation of 5G expansion plans are seen as positive signals for shareholders and the broader telecom sector, underscoring Nepal Telecom’s role in advancing Nepal’s digital connectivity while maintaining financial stability.
