kathmandu : Meta has officially unveiled its most advanced smart glasses to date – the Ray-Ban Display, introducing a built-in AI-powered lens display for the first time. The announcement came during the Meta Connect 2025 event, alongside other wearable innovations including the Oakley Meta Vanguard and the Meta Neural Band.

What Makes It Different?

Unlike previous smart glasses that only offered camera and audio features, the Ray-Ban Display integrates a high-resolution color screen inside the right lens. This allows users to view messages, photos, live captions, translations, maps, and even video calls directly in front of their eyes – without pulling out a phone.

Key Features

In-Lens Display: Full-color, high-brightness display visible even outdoors.

AI Integration: Powered by Meta AI for instant translations, question answering, and smart suggestions.

Gesture Control: Operates via the new Meta Neural Band, a wristband that reads muscle signals to enable touch-free navigation.

Camera & Audio: Upgraded cameras, microphones, and open-ear speakers for hands-free communication.

Battery Life: Around 6 hours of mixed use, extendable with charging case.

Design: Stylish Ray-Ban frames to ensure normal look and everyday usability.

Price & Availability

The Ray-Ban Display will be available in the U.S. from September 30, 2025, starting at $799 (approx. NPR 1,06,000). The Oakley Meta Vanguard, focused on sports and performance users, is priced at $499.

Strengths

First mainstream smart glasses with integrated display.

Sleek design that looks like normal Ray-Ban eyewear.

Useful AI features for travel, communication, and real-time captions.

Challenges

Limited battery life compared to daily smartphone usage.

High price may restrict adoption.

Privacy concerns around recording and public acceptance.

Why It Matters

With this launch, Meta is stepping closer to its augmented reality vision. The Ray-Ban Display represents a bridge between today’s smart wearables and tomorrow’s full AR glasses, offering consumers a taste of digital information layered seamlessly into daily life.

For now, the device will roll out in the U.S., but global availability, including in South Asia, is expected in the near future.
