kathmandu : Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has said that allowing an Iranian warship to dock at an Indian port was the “right decision.” The Iranian request for docking came on February 28, and India approved it on March 1. The warship IRIS Lavan reached Kochi port on March 4, with around 183 crew members accommodated at Indian naval facilities.
Jaishankar emphasized that the decision was taken on humanitarian grounds and that India did not take sides in the ongoing conflict. The move aimed to reduce tensions and ensure the safety of human lives. Iranian authorities reportedly expressed gratitude for India’s assistance. The decision followed reports of another Iranian warship, IRIS Dena, being sunk outside Sri Lankan waters, resulting in casualties. India maintains that its action balances bilateral relations and regional security concerns.
