Government decides to shut down 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, starting today

Kathmandu: The government has decided to shut down social media platforms that do not come for listing with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

At a meeting held today (Thursday) under the leadership of Communications Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, it was decided to impose a ban on social media platforms that fail to be listed within the set deadline.

The government’s decision is to shut down 26 social media platforms, including Facebook, effective from today.

Officials from the ministry, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, and others were present at the meeting. The government had given Facebook and other social media one week to come under regulation; that deadline expired last night.
