Birgunj — The number of confirmed cholera patients in Birgunj Metropolitan City has reached 71. According to data as of 8 p.m. on Sunday, 29 new cases were added to the 42 infections confirmed by Saturday.
According to Suman Chandra Thakur, Public Health Officer at the metropolis’s health division, the infected residents are from Wards 3, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16.
Patients Under Treatment in Hospitals
Currently, 26 patients are being treated at Narayani Hospital, 25 at Terai Hospital, 9 at National Medical College, 3 at Bhawani Hospital, 2 at Birgunj Healthcare Hospital, 2 at Ali Hospital, 2 at Narayani Central Hospital, and 2 at Mangalam Diagnostic Center. Similarly, 161 patients with diarrhea and suspected cholera are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.
According to Dr. Uday Narayan Singh, Information Officer at Narayani Hospital, some patients have already recovered and returned home after treatment. He added that the situation is not alarming and that cholera risks can be reduced by drinking clean water, maintaining personal hygiene, and following health precautions.
Joint Efforts of Federal, Provincial, and Local Governments
To control cholera, the federal, provincial, and local governments are jointly running campaigns. Birgunj Metropolitan City has mobilized a special health team and initiated control and prevention activities in affected areas.
Similarly, the District Health Crisis Management Committee has directed Narayani Hospital and other health institutions to remain on high alert and ensure the supply of necessary medical equipment.
Local administration and health agencies have urged citizens to stay cautious, drink only clean water, and pay special attention to personal hygiene.
