Chief Minister Sonal to Seek Vote of Confidence Today

Janakpur. Madhesh Province Chief Minister Jitendra Sonal is set to seek a vote of confidence today (Saturday).

Sonal was appointed as the Chief Minister on Ashoj 29 with the support of 56 provincial assembly members representing five political parties.

According to Article 168(4) of the Constitution of Nepal, Sonal will seek the vote of confidence during today’s meeting of the Provincial Assembly.

The Madhesh Provincial Assembly has 107 members, of which 104 are currently active. As per the Constitution, a majority of the existing members — that is, at least 53 votes — is required to secure the vote of confidence.

Chief Minister Sonal currently enjoys the support of 18 members from Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, 11 from Janamat Party, 9 from CPN (Maoist Centre), 8 from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), 7 from CPN (Unified Socialist), and one member each from Nagarik Unmukti Party and Nepal Samajwadi Party.
